Baboon on the Moon

In Literacy, we have been looking at the short film, Baboon on the Moon from the British Film Institute.

What surprised us the most was that the film does not have any words, only music to help set the scene.

This is Baboon and we found have found out that Baboon is lonely and miserable, living on the moon all by himself.


So we have decided that we are going to try and cheer him up. Some of the activities that we completed were:

Retelling the story in our own words, remembering to use coordinating conjunctions (and, or, but) and subordinating conjunctions (because, if, when, while, so) to extend our sentences.


Character descriptions after watching the film to help us to describe Baboon’s appearance and personality.

Asking questions through hot seating and using a microphone to record the answers. We asked the lovely Miss Morris if she would take on the role of Baboon since we knew that he was stuck on the moon.

Letters to Baboon, making sure that we tried hard to include some of the questions that we had thought of as well as including some information about ourselves.


We hope that Baboon comes home to Earth soon because he must be really missing his friends and family.

  1. Very impressed with your writing. Are you encouraging the children to use joint cursive…we are thinking of trying it in our school. I love the idea of the video stimulus. We sometimes use for some ideas!
