This week’s Superstar Writer of the Week is…
This young man has been on the radar for Superstar Writer of the Week for a while now. He is trying super hard to use his phonics when writing, using a word fan to spell his tricky words and makes sure that his handwriting is always neat and tidy. There has been a big improvement in your writing, we can’t wait to see how this continues throughout the year!
Wow! What fantastic writers we have in Pearl class!
Our Week 4 winner is trying so incredibly hard to use his phonics to write down the words that he wants to use. Keep up this amazing work!
Our Week 5 winner is another superstar who is trying amazingly hard to use the correct sounds when he is writing his words.
The adults in Pearl class are so proud of the effort you are both putting in. Keep it up!
In Year 2, phonics still plays a massive part in our everyday writing and we are always looking at how we can improve it.
In class, we might decide to use a phoneme strip or a sentence hand to help us with our writing. Some of us will robot talk the words to make sure that we have sounded out each sound of the word.
We are practising how to begin to read our work back and edit it so that we can improve it.
You can use Phonics Play at home to help you to practise as well.

If you are working at Phase 6, you can play Past Tense Penguin to help you get better at adding the suffix -ed to verbs to turn them into the past tense or Tumbling Tumbleweed to help you to practise adding the suffix -ing to verbs to turn them into the present tense.
If you are working at Phase 5, there are lots of games that you can play like Picnic on Pluto, Buried Treasure or Dragon’s Den to help you to recognise real and nonsense words.
Ask Miss Varley if you need some help.
