PJ Day for Books at Bedtime 2018

Kids Sitting on Books

Over the last three weeks, everyone in school has been trying really hard to read more stories and books at home to help everyone become better readers and enjoy more stories.

Here are the winners of the special prizes in Pearl class from the last three weeks.

We celebrated the end of Books at Bedtime with a PJ day at school and a special visit from Andy Messer, our story teller in residence.

Everyone loved being able to come to school in their pjs and share some of their favourite stories with each other, especially when we were allowed to go and sit in the staff room to read our stories and then drank delicious hot chocolate!

What is your favourite story? Who is your favourite author?

Books at Bedtime

Over the last 3 weeks, FS and KS1 have taken part in a competition called Books at Bedtime. This is to help promote lots of reading to be done at home at bedtime. Every child was given a card to fill in and at the end of every week, the class teacher picked a winner at random. Here are the winners from Pearl class from the last 3 weeks. We’d also like to say a big thank you to all the parents and carers who have helped their child do lots of bedtime reading.

As part of the Grand Finale of the Books at Bedtime, everyone in FS and KS1 got to come to school in their pyjamas. Everyone has had such a fantastic time! Well done for doing lots of reading at bedtime! Keep it up! 🙂

How to continue the learning at home:

  • Read with your child at least once a day. This could include a book from home, a book from school, a newspaper, a comic or an magazine.
  • Visit the library to borrow a selection of different books. Click here for the details of Manor Top library and opening times.
  • Speak to Miss Varley about different ways to engage your child in reading.
  • Talk to your child and ask them questions about what they have read to test their comprehension.
