Y2 Class Assembly

Last week, it was our turn for the Y2 Class Assembly.

We told our audience lots about what we had been learning about in class, including Ramadan and Eid, the artist Kandinsky and our residential trip to Whirlow Hall Farm.

We would like to say thank you to all of our parents and carers who took the time to come and watch us. We really appreciate it!

Ramadan and Eid 2019

Over the past few weeks in Y2, we have been learning about the festival of Eid and the period that comes before Eid which is called Ramadan.

Ramadan and Eid are very important to Muslims. Ramadan takes place in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and it is a time where Muslims fast, pray, reflect and spend time together as a community. This year, Ramadan took place between Sunday 5th May and Tuesday 4th June. To help us count down the days to Eid at school, Miss Varley found a countdown calendar which also helped us to learn some Arabic words.

Here are some of the Arabic words that we learnt from the calendar:

  • Hope = Amal
  • Prayer = Sala
  • Peace = Salam
  • Mosque = Masjid
  • Love = Hubun
  • Friend = Sadiq

In class, we wrote some non-chronological reports about Ramadan too. Take a look at some of our writing below.

To help us celebrate Eid in style, we held an Eid parent craft morning to help decorate our classrooms. Everyone had lots of fun and enjoyed getting stuck in with all of the crafts.

In the afternoon, we came together to FS and Y1 to have an Eid Party. There were lots of treats for us to try, decorations and music for us to dance to. Everyone really did have a marvellous time.

Wishing all of of Muslim friends and family a happy and prosperous Eid Mubarak!

Watch out for the Y2 trip letter to the Medina mosque on Wednesday 10th July. If any parent or career that would like to come and help out, you would be more than welcome to come and join us.
